Belkin Career Spring Fling 2024'

This past week I attended Belkin HQ’s Spring Fling as a part of Portal Learning’s real-world experience to network and foster relationships and experience careers of today and the future. 

The day kicked off with the ‘Fostering a Culture of Empowerment’ panel, moderated by Jo Taylor Belkin’s Chief Legal Officer. Joining her were powerhouses like Alisa Sommer, Global Head of Ed Tech at Google; Kaylah Bell from Influencer Marketing at Savage X Fenty; Sabrina Ayala, President at Delta Financial; and Stephanie Clark, VP of Communications at Paramount Streaming. This panel unpacked the importance of creating empowering environments that foster innovation, diversity, and open communication, in a business. 

Next, the ‘Diversity and Inclusion in the Corporate Setting and Everywhere’ panel was led by Milo Dodson, Ph.D. (he/him/his), Senior Manager of DEIB at Belkin, with panelists Erin Whalen Executive Director at RISE High School; Lindsey Heisser Manager of Global Philanthropy at Snap; and Rafael McMaster, Founder and Executive Director of Indivisible Arts. This discussion highlighted the role diversity and inclusion play across all sectors and the importance of promoting a more equitable society.

Following these discussions, the first workshop, ‘Product Management: Pursue the Ideal,’ led by Belkin’s Project Manager and Sales Team, explored sustainable product design. We learned about the durability and environmental considerations in product testing and development.

The second workshop, ‘Design: Maintain your Edge,’ challenged us to create a functional space for two people to co-create cooking videos. This workshop emphasized design thinking and its necessity for efficiency and innovation in today’s fast-paced market.

The day was filled with hands-on experiences that demonstrated how empowerment, diversity, and innovative thinking are crucial for shaping the future. Belkin’s dedication to these values not only educates but also inspires us, the next generation. Thank you Belkin and to all the inspiring panelists!
